A huge effect of those who don’t really want to code, don’t enjoy coding, and probably shouldn’t be coding, is that the industry moves from crap environment to crap environment for both development and deployment with little sign of improvement. So many programmers (and technical leads, architects and CIOs) can’t tell if the newest thing is actually better, and don’t like it if it’s truly different anyway.

Most write code as if they were also about to pop the Bee Gees into their cassette decks and put on some bell bottoms to go to the disco. The result is that the better ones just get frustrated and go do something else, which only makes the problem worse.
